Dashboard Lights and Icons

What Do the Lights on My Dashboard Mean in Livermore, CA?
Some drivers are already aware of what those little lights mean on their dashboard. If you don't already know, that's okay too. Some drivers are still confused when a light turns on in their car. While some lights are harmless, like a high beam indicator (brights), other indicators can give warning to more serious issues. That's why it's important to know what those lights on your dash mean. To learn more specific information about your make and model, consult your owner's manual. Below, however, are the common dashboard lights and indicators that our customers typically see.

Check Engine or Malfunction Indicator Light
This light should never be ignored. It indicates that your vehicle has a problem with the engine, and it could lead to the system functioning abnormally. There are several reasons why this light may turn on, so make sure to bring your vehicle to a professional as soon as possible for an inspection.
Coolant Temperature Warning Light
Your vehicle's engine temperature has become abnormally high. You should stop the car and turn off the engine so it can cool down immediately.

Oil Pressure Warning Light
This light means the oil pressure in your vehicle is low. It's time to get an oil change and an inspection.
Battery/Charging Warning Light
Pop the hood if this light comes on. It means the battery voltage level is low, possibly due to faulty wiring, a broken fan belt or even simply the age of the battery. If you don't see anything wrong, seek professional help.

Door Ajar Indicator Light
This one is easy. It means a door or the trunk isn't closed all the way, so double check all of your doors.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System Light
One (or possibly more) of your tires needs more pressure, meaning you should find a gas station with an air pump. Consult your owner's manual, pump air into your tires and check the poundage with a tire pressure gauge. The light should turn off after a few minutes.

Brake System Light
This light can signal one of four problems: your parking brake is on while driving, the brake fluid is low, there's an ABS problem or there is a bigger issue with the braking system. Release the parking brake and have your brake fluid checked.
Traction Control Indicator Light
The roads are slick due to rain. You’ll see this light when your car’s traction control is in use during inclement weather.

Security Indicator Light
This light indicates that there's a malfunction in the security system. Make an appointment with your local dealer for an inspection.
Cruise Control Indicator Light
Cruise control is active.
